From Laura Dolson, your Guide to Low Carb Diets
If you pay attention to health stories in the news, you probably saw this one last week, telling us of a study that "proved" that low-carbers who eat meat die at a greater rate than those eating plants. This is the type of thing that drives me crazy, because when you actually read the study, you discover something entirely different. This week I take a look at the study, and then at the response of one of low-carb's most outspoken critics. Of course, plants have lots of good things for us, and I also have lists of low-carb veggies and fruits. Enjoy delicious low-carb food this week! Laura

Low-Carb Eating: Meat vs Plants
The study is widely reported to mean that an "animal-based low-carb diet" increases mortality. But guess what? In this study I'd be both a "plant-based" AND an "animal-based" low-carb eater, and probably most of you would be as well.

Dean Ornish Swings and Misses
Dean Ornish is perhaps the chief proponent of a high-carb, low-fat diet. He says the study proves that "The Atkins Diet Increases All-Cause Mortality". I tell why he's waay off-base.

Low-Carb Vegetable List
Eating a variety of vegetables is certainly good for us! Here's a list, in order from least to most carbs, with links to more information, including carbs, nutrition, and recipes.

Low-Carb Fruit List
Here's a similar list for fruit - the links include glycemic index and load.
