Folic acid is the artificial form of folate, a B vitamin found in vegetables, fruits and legumes. Yeas ago, experts hoped that taking large amounts of folic acid would help to decrease risk of heart disease - but that hasn't turned out to be true. Looks like the best bet is to stick with a healthy diet with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables.
