4 keyword myths busted wide open

Hi John,

I recently did an SEO case study for the launch of RankBuilder 2.0
(this email is not about that) and I wanted to share a strategy
that we follow for finding good, traffic-driving keywords for your
sites.

The first thing to keep in mind is that one of the easiest ways to
earn online is as an affiliate.  There are a ton of keywords you
can target on your blogs to get targeted traffic who take action
(clicking your affiliate links and buying stuff).

But most go about it all wrong which is why they see little to no
results (traffic or rankings).

What NOT to do...

First, here's what you should stop doing.  If you're the type to
only target keywords based on search volume... stop!  Here are a
couple secrets...

1. Google doesn't do a very good job of telling you the actual
search volume of keywords

2. A lot of search terms you can target benefit from an extra of
search volume and traffic that Google may not be showing.  Word of
mouth, viral/social marketing, news events, and people mailing to
large lists can give any keyword a consistent spike in search
volume.

3. Most high volume search keywords are also high competition,
lessening your chances of ranking for them without months and
months of laser focused SEO.  Then inevitably, when you're seeing
no traffic you abandon the site and jump to the next "big keyword".

4.  The more keywords your sites rank for, the better chance you'll
have of ranking for those high volume keywords in the future
(Google trust factor).

What You Should Be Doing...

Here's what you should do and what we did on our site at
PromotedProfits.com which turned out to be an extremely successful
strategy.

1. Start by targeting and posting content on all relevant keywords
for your market regardless of search volume (we don't even look)

2. We didn't immediately go for the highest volume search terms -
we went for keywords that would at least bring us some traffic
(even if only 10 visitors a day).  All of these keywords now do
their part to bring in our traffic and generate clicks, leads and
sales

3. We created a definite structure for our posts, simple and always
the same - writing around 300-500 words of content for each post

4.  We interlinked related posts automatically using 2 great SEO
Wordpress plugins called "SEO Automatic Links" and "Yet another
related Posts plugin".

5. We posted just 3-4 articles per day on the site and that's it

6. We focused on one large market ONLY with a lot of keyword,
traffic and ranking opportunities.

This turned out to be the best thing we could have ever done.  I'm
convinced that this is the #1 strategy for filling a site with
great, traffic-driving keywords that will generate affiliate, ad
revenue, and leads.

long and time consuming to find these great types of keywords.
