| | Ground turkey is a great substitute for ground beef, and can be used for all manner of dishes from meatballs to burgers to chili. Use either 99 percent fat-free turkey or for a better flavor and texture, the 93 percent lean version. Another fat- and calorie-saving tip: use a little less meat and add more fillers such as shredded vegetables. | | Spicy Turkey Meatballs Spaghetti and Meatballs is a favorite in our house, but it's not exactly a low-fat, low-calorie meal. I shave fat calories by substituting lean ground turkey for ground beef, and using a little less meat overall. To boost the nutritional value of the meal, I serve the meatballs with a low-sodium tomato sauce and whole-wheat spaghetti. | Turkey Meatloaf This is one of my favorite meatloaf recipes. Using lean ground turkey, breadcrumbs soaked in milk, and shredded vegetables makes for a flavorful, tender, moist meatloaf. In fact, the recipe yields two turkey meatloaves. Enjoy with skinny mashed potatoes (substituting low fat buttermilk or low fat milk for butter and cream), and your favorite veggies. | Turkey Chili This low fat turkey chili is an ideal option for a family supper, and one of my favorites. It's hearty, healthy and easy to prepare. Serve with a dollop of fat-free yogurt or sour cream on top. | Turkey Sloppy Joes Turkey sloppy Joes make a great weeknight meal or a great game-day treat. For an extra nutritional punch, serve with whole-grain rolls instead of regular rolls, and offer baby carrots and grapes on the side. | | | | Low Fat Cooking Ads | | | | Featured Articles | | | | | | Sign up for more free newsletters on your favorite topics | | | | You are receiving this newsletter because you subscribed to the About Low Fat Cooking newsletter.
